Nasal fluticasone propionate belongs to a class of anti-inflammatory agents called corticosteroids. It is used to treat rhinitis or inflammation of the nasal mucus membranes. It works by inhibiting the production of allergic and inflammatory mediators in the body.
Indications
Prevention and treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis including hay fever, and perennial rhinitis. When used topically on the nasal mucosa Flixonase has no detectable systemic activity.
Contra-Indications
Allergy to any of the ingredients.
Warnings and Precautions
Infections of the nasal airways should be appropriately treated but do not constitute a specific contra-indication to treatment. The full benefit may not be achieved for several days. An abnormally heavy challenge of summer allergens may in certain instances necessitate appropriate additional therapy, particularly to control eye symptoms.
Care while transferring patients from systemic steroid treatment if there is any reason to suppose that their adrenal function is impaired. Recurrent epistaxis or recent nasal septum surgery.
Pregnancy and Lactation
The benefits must be weighed against the possible risks associated with the product or with any alternative therapy.
Side Effects
Dryness and irritation of the nose and throat, unpleasant taste and smell, nose bleeds and allergic reactions including skin rash, swelling of the face or tongue and, rarely, bronchospasm have been reported. Extremely rare cases of nasal septal perforation.
Overdosage
There are no data available on the effects of acute or chronic overdosage with Flixonase Aqueous Nasal Spray.
