Entocort is an oral steroid recently approved for use in the treatment of Crohn's disease. The advantage of this preparation over other oral steroids is its formulation. The capsule delays the release of the steroid until it reaches the small intestine. This allows the use of a smaller dose than otherwise if it had to act systematically instead of locally. In addition the lower dose significantly reduces the incidence of side effects.
