Description
Each capsule contains a measured dose of pimobendan.
Uses
For the treatment of canine congestive heart failure originating from dilated cardiomyopathy or valvular insufficiency (mitral and/or tricuspid regurgitation).
Dosage
Vetmedin capsules should be administered orally (approximately one hour before feeding) at a dose of 0.2mg to 0.6mg pimobendan/kg bodyweight per day. The daily dose should be divided into two equal administrations, at approx 12 hour intervals.
What if I miss giving a dose?
Don't worry. Just proceed as normal and give the next dose when due. There's no need to give a higher dose.
How long will my dog require treatment with Vetmedin?
For as long as your dog is responding well to treatment. This is likely to mean for the rest of his or her life. During this time Vetmedin may be given alone or alongside other medication.
How long will it be before my dog improves?
You should start to see an improvement in your dog within a week. This improvement may even get better in the following weeks. Obviously severity of heart failure will vary from dog to dog and this will affect how well your dog will respond. Many dogs show a dramatic improvement, once established on Vetmedin treatment.
Can my dog live longer?
Yes, almost certainly. How long this is likely to be will depend on the type of heart condition your dog has. Discuss this with your vet.
Does Vetmedin have any side effects?
Occasionally, dogs may experience vomiting but this is very rare. If this happens, please contact your vet who will advise you what to do.
